Ha My

Nguyen Ha My graduated with a Bachelor's degree from University of Arts and Design and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Bird-and-Flower Painting at China Academy of Art.

Ha My's artistic practice is grounded in the gongbi tradition, a painterly system distinguished by the precision of line, structural discipline, and the meticulous application of layered watercolour. In her recent works, as her technical mastery has matured, she has increasingly woven together the aesthetics of traditional Eastern painting with Vietnamese cultural identity. Flowers, birds, and traditional mythical creatures appear not as decorative motifs, but as vehicles for expressing states of mind, memory, and the enduring relationship between humanity and the natural world. Within these works, nature gradually enters the realm of culture, rendered through passages that range from meticulously detailed brushwork to freely diffused washes of colour. While affirming a strong sense of realism, her paintings never lose the lyrical sensibility inherent in the language of brush and ink.

Grounded in the tradition of Chinese painting, Ha My extends her practice through the use of a contemporary colour palette and modern formal approaches. This synthesis broadens the expressive possibilities of the gongbi technique while retaining the distinctive spirit of East Asian painting.
