Nguyen The Hung (b. 1981) graduated from Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2009 and currently lives and works in Hanoi.
Over nearly two decades of artistic practice, he has experimented with various materials before choosing lacquer on canvas as his primary medium – an innovative approach that reinterprets traditional aesthetics through a contemporary lens. His painterly world is rich in color, weaving together nature, humanity, and Vietnamese cultural identity. He often draws inspiration from surrounding nature, female figures, and cultural symbols, combined with geometric line structures and shifting perspectives to construct spaces that hover between reality and reverie. That is where the relationship between tradition and modernity is continuously contemplated through multiple states of being.
As an active artist with numerous group exhibitions in Vietnam and abroad, his works have been acquired by private collections in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, France, and Sweden.
