Pham Duc Tung

Pham Duc Tung studied at Hanoi College of Arts (1998 - 2001) before graduating from Vietnam University of Fine Arts (2003 - 2008). Committed to abstract painting, he approaches abstraction not as a formal choice or an aesthetic tendency, but as a means of exploring the inner self through the experiences of everyday life.

Pham Duc Tung's practice begins with close observation of natural phenomena and the environments we inhabit, ranging from the rhythms of urban life and childhood memories to the shifting cycles of nature. Compositionally, his paintings maintain a delicate balance between the rationality of geometric forms and implied structural lines, and the spontaneity of intuitive, gestural passages of colour. His palette is characterised by pronounced contrasts of light and dark, employing bold, highly saturated colours. Together, these elements produce works that alternately appear radiant, restrained, and dreamlike, while retaining subtle visual anchors that guide the viewer through shifting currents of recollection, emotional resonance, and stillness.
